In the Nag Hammadi text On the Origin of the World, Sabaoth—the son of Yaldabaoth—emerges as one of the most fascinating figures in Sethian Gnosticism.
Born from the arrogant demiurge who believes himself the only god, Sabaoth initially shares in the archons’ power. But when Sophia reveals the higher realms, Sabaoth turns away from his father’s tyranny.
This sparks a cosmic conflict, and a portion of the powers fall into rebellion against him, echoing the “third of the angels” imagery later associated with Lucifer’s fall in Jewish and Christian tradition.
Sophia rescues Sabaoth, he gets married to Zoe, daughter of Sophia. Now, here is the kicker, they had a child and his name is Christ 🤯.
The similarities between this and the Lucifer stories are hard to miss.
